Platform Accountability: Global Challenges and Opportunities
November 2020
As a complement to a 2018 report by Freedman Consulting on platform accountability, Cedar Partners and Associates examined platform harms in the global context, focusing on a selection of strategically significant countries: Brazil, India, Indonesia, Kenya and South Africa, as well as the European Union. This report examines issues identified by civil society organizations where platform harms have caused problems: content issues, user concerns, work and the impact on the wider economy. Commissioned by NetGain Partners, this project was conducted by eight researchers, led by Andrew Puddephatt of Cedar Partners, and included 85 interviews with experts, officials, civil society groups and academics across six jurisdictions alongside analyses of relevant policy and legislative approaches.
